There are a whole number of reasons for holidays in the mountains. Boosting your health, enjoying stunning views and taking in fresh air are only some of them. Ötztal offers alpine holidays at their very best.
Nearly no other valley in the Alps offers its guest so many things as the Oetztal in Tyrol: secure enjoyment of the snow up to a height of 3.250 m, kilometres of slopes for beginners and intermediates, the modernest lifts..
...about 150 km of cross-country courses, 200 hiking path free of snow, comfortable huts during the day and in the evening, highlife, toboggan sliding, skiing at night, wellness in your hotel or just relax.
The offer ranges from silent small villages to the most famous winter sport villages in the country. Oetz and Sautens at the entrance of the valley are ideal places for winter sport with your family. Umhausen and Laengenfeld in the middle of the valley are ideal for cross-country skiing. Another advantage is the near distance to the skiing centre further in the Oetztal. Gries and Niederthai, set in smaller side valleys offer pure winter romance. Soelden and Obergurgl further in the Oetztal fulfill highest demands with slopes, security, gastronomy and Après Ski.
No other valley is so diverse as the 67km long Tirolean Ötztal valley with its eight towns of Haiming, Sautens, Ötz, Umhausen, Längenfeld, Sölden, Vent and Obergurgl-Hochgurgl. Set at an altitude between 700m and 2,500m, it extends south of the Upper Inntal valley.
The character of the three valley stages is as varied as their altitude, ranging from sporty to traditionally Tirolean, from hip to quiet and cozy. Framed by 250 more than 3,000m high mountains, the valley offers stunning vistas and impressions. The southern sun sends its warming rays until late fall.
Ötztal is a holiday region with many superlatives. The 67km long Inntal side valley covers 140sqkm and features the largest glacier area of the Eastern Alps. Obergurgl-Hochgurgl at an altitude of 1,930m is Austria’s highest inhabited parish, Stuibenfall, Tirol’s highest waterfall near Umhausen measures 159m, while Wildspitze (3,772m) is Austria’s second highest mountain and Lake Piburger See with an average temperature of 23°C ranges among Austria’s warmest bathing lakes.
Central Ötztal is the widest part of the valley and offers 20km of lush green pastures. The valley bottom at an altitude of 1,200m is framed by majestic mountains before deep blue skies.
